Juggernaut by Electric Chair 3000 On Dreaming Beach Party 2

"Juggernaut" is one of two songs by Electric Chair 3000  available on the Rosenklang compilation called Dreaming Beach Party 2.  It is one the few songs that I ever done that I had never changed anything on.  It was composed as is and has never changed.

At the time of its composition, I was trying to make a song that combined funk, trop rock,  Caribbean rhythms,  and California surf rock. Yes.

In my mind,  I succeeded which why I have never changed it.  It one of the few songs I've done that I really love.

Currently, I have two songs on Dreaming Beach Party 2.  The other is called "Southland".  Both are 89 cents each.  Only 89 cents.  Less than a dollar.

Sometime this year, I will release the album called Juggernaut which features a whole selection of songs which combine funk, trop rock, Caribbean rhythms and California surf rock.  Be on the lookout.  Alert the media. Warn your family and friends.

Slam Slam Slam By Electric Chair 3000 Now On Japan 3 Compilation

Way back in 2001, I composed a song called "Slam Slam Slam" for my group called Teflon.  Teflon was an experimental project where I tried to combined funk and electronica into some sort of workable combo.  The first Telfon CD was called "Turn That Shit Off Now!!!" which is what I would suspect someone to say if they heard it blasting out of radio, mp3 player or car.

Not one to be settled, I tried to mix and mash as many different styles of music into a solid whole.  Truth be told, I get bored with one sound or style if it is played over and over.  I can listen to 80's pop, hip hop, heavy metal and 70's funk in one setting.  This doesn't make me special, I just want to let readers know where I'm coming from musically.

Back to "Slam Slam Slam."  The song is now featured on a second Rosenklang compilation. The first one is called A Collection of Asian Pop.  The song is also featured on the new compilation called Japan 3.

Both versions are 89 cents. So help a brother out and go buy one or both if you're really feeling charitable.

Once again, the group is credited as The Electric Chair.  Why? Because at one time it was called The Electric Chair.  After thinking it over, I decided to change the name to Electric Chair 3000. Why? Because there are several other bands called The Electric Chair.

Rosenklang Records commissioned this song from my music publisher before the name change.

Thanks for reading. Go write some great songs.

Jupiter Eyes - Mary Win (Original Music Video, Epiphone)

From Mary Win: Here in Washington State it will be rain, rain, rain until June. Not big dramatic showers and large puffy clouds but instead, solid gray skies and a slow maddening drizzle. Of course the plants love it. This video was shot at a local State Park under the protection of a covered barbecue pit. It almost looks like a green screen behind me but it is natures original green screen, plants :-) Cheers, ~Mary Win.

Electric Chair 3000: I ran across this artist accidently but I'm glad I did. Being the sucker for acoustic guitar, thoughtful and introspective lyrics and hustling artists, I had to post this song by up and coming artist Mary Win.

To those who hate or hate on the current pop music, I always say that the music you want or desire IS OUT THERE, if you would go out and look for it. This is a the new digital age. Take advantage of it.

Back to Mary Win, she describes her sound as "sweet and sour." Go to her website and find out concert dates, up and coming projects, and a lot of soul searching music.

Kraftwerk "Showroom Dummies"/ E.C. 3000's Influences

From Kraftwerk: The song "Showroom Dummies" is taken from Kraftwerk`s seminal 1977 album "Trans Europe Express". This version is a sprecial edit from 1982 which has been released in the UK.

"The Robots" By Kraftwerk/E.C. 3000's Influences

From Kraftwerk: Classic 1977, Kraftwerk videoclip of The Robots. Kraftwerk, the pioneers of electronic music.

From Wikipedia: The Robots" (originally Die Roboter) is a single by the influential German electronic music pioneers, Kraftwerk, released in 1978. The single and its B-side, "Spacelab", both appeared on the band's seventh album, The Man-Machine. However, the songs as they appear on the single were scaled down into shorter versions.[1] In 1991, a remix of the song was issued as a single from the band's remix album The Mix.

Kraftwerk aren't in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. A lot of bands I like aren't in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, as you will see in the next few posts.

Their sound is a combo of electric, classical, disco and pop. A mix they pull off very well.

War - The Cisco Kid/E.C. 3000's Influences

From RakyMaky on YouTube about War: One of the most popular funk groups of the '70s, War were also one of the most eclectic, freely melding soul, Latin, jazz, blues, reggae, and rock influences into an effortlessly funky whole. Although War's lyrics were sometimes political in nature (in keeping with their racially integrated lineup), their music almost always had a sunny, laid-back vibe emblematic of their Southern California roots. War kept the groove loose, and they were given over to extended jamming -- in fact, many of their studio songs were edited together out of longer improvisations. Even if the jams sometimes got indulgent, they demonstrated War's truly group-minded approach: no one soloist or vocalist really stood above the others (even though all were clearly talented), and their grooving interplay placed War in the top echelon of funk ensembles.

A major influence on Electric Chair 3000. In our songs, "Juggernaut", "Onslaught" and "Reborn" we try our best to imitate many of the musical elements of War along with a couple of other artists.

"The Cisco Kid" is a great song.

War, for some reason, are not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Slippin' Into Darkness By War/ EC 3000's Influences

From Wikipedia: "Slipping Into Darkness", backed with "Nappy Head", was War's first big hit since their name change from Eric Burdon and War. The song is based in part on "Get Up, Stand Up" by The Wailers (composed by Bob Marley and Peter Tosh), although this is not acknowledged in the composer credits. (The spelling was changed slightly to "Slippin' Into Darkness" for the single, and is also used on a CD edition of the album.)[1][2] An earlier single was "All Day Music" backed with "Get Down".[2] A subtitle for "Nappy Head" claims it is the theme from Ghetto Man, but there does not appear to be any notable film or television series with this title, and it may refer to a series that never went into production. "Baby Brother" is a live track recorded at the Hollywood Bowl, June 30, 1971, at an event called the United Artists 99 Cent Spectacular; a studio version of this song retitled "Me and Baby Brother" appeared on a later album, Deliver the Word (1973).

War is best known for the song "Low Rider" aka the theme to "George Lopez" which was on ABC but now is in syndication. However they produced many great songs including: "The Cisco Kid", "Me and Baby Brother" and "Slippin' Into Darkness."

A major influence on Electric Chair 3000 and yet another band NOT in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Their sound is a combo of r and b, pop, latin, jazz, rock and reggae done well.

Check out: "The Cisco Kid" & "Low Rider" for further evidence.

How to Make Money With Your Music/Preview of Taxi CEO/Founder Michael La...

From Songwriter's Vantage: Katie Shorey talks Taxi CEO/Founder Michael Laskow. Taxi.com is the worlds largest and leading A&R company. Michael gives great advice on how to be successful in the music business. See the full video at SongwritersVantage.com
To all who want to write for music libaries such as AudioSparx, Pump Audio or Taxi, one of the best ways to learn what kind of music is wanted on television is to watch a lot of television shows and listen to the music. Did I shock you? It is on of the best ways to gauge what is selling as background music for tv. If you think your music doesn't fit, trust me, there is an audience for it.

How you get your music into the hands of a creative director or music supervisor of television? That is the job of the music library you join if you chose to join one. You can independently search for and contact music supervisors on you own. Be warned. It is a lot of hard work getting a song onto a cable or network program. You have a lot of competition. A lot.

The rewards, however, are worth it.

"Apocalypse Dance Club" By Electric Chair 3000

"Apocalypse Dance Club" is the new release by Electric Chair 3000. It combines a modern electronica dance beat with distorted Rhodes keyboards, Miami bass and wild spacey organs.  It's sort of a combo of the Black Eyed Peas and Daft Punk but with our own signature sound.

You can get a brief preview at Amazon MP3 Downloads. The song with be included in yet another upcoming Electric Chair 3000 digital album. Currently we are working on four digital albums to be released this year: Pacific Loop, Down Home, Juggernaut and Apocalypse Dance Club.  Yeah, we're putting a lot of work this year.

Go out and buy "Apocalypse Dance Club" by Electric Chair for 99 cents.  If a broke songwriter like me can afford 99 cents, you can. Peace.

Meet music supervisor Randall Poster who has placed music in films such as 200 Cigarettes, Rushmore and The Hangover.

The music supervisor is the MOST important person to a songwriter. The supervisor is the one who picks the songs for the film.

If the music supervisor likes your music, chances are it will get into the film he or she is working on. Even if the music doesn't get into that film, the supervisor now has you down as an artist or songwriter who can deliver the goods and then maybe you'll get into their next project or the next.

Songwriters Who Do Work for Hire

From Artists House Music: Jeffrey Brabec, Vice President of Business Affairs for the Chrysalis Music Group, talks about work for hire. Work for hire occurs when a writer or composer writes a song for a film, television show, or commercial. However, the publishing company becomes the legal author of the work. Brabec points out that the songwriter or composer still receive writer royalties. There is a royalty schedule in all agreements. He also stresses that there are no reversions. Songwriters cannot take advantage of getting their song or score back. The future litigation of 2013 is covered as well. Brabec explains that the songwriting business will be the area of controversy.

From BMI VIDEO: David Foster's "10 Tips for Songwriters" from his speech upon accepting the BMI Icon Award.

BMI held its 59th annual Pop Music Awards Tuesday, May 17 at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Los Angeles. David Foster was celebrated as a BMI Icon, and an all-star musical tribute featuring Brian McKnight, Keri Hilson, Cody Karey, Courtney Blooding and Chaka Khan celebrated his career. Lady Gaga, Jason Derülo and JR Rotem all became the BMI Pop Songwriters of the Year; Lady Antebellum's "Need You Now" garnered Pop Song of the Year honors for co-writers Dave Haywood and Charles Kelley and publishers DWHaywood Music, RADIOBULLETSPUBLISHING and Warner-Tamerlane Publishing Corp; and Sony/ATV Songs LLC claimed the Pop Publisher of the Year crystal. Hosted by BMI President & CEO Del Bryant, along with Barbara Cane, BMI Vice President/General Manager, Los Angeles, and Phil Graham, BMI Senior Vice President, Writer/Publisher Relations, the ceremony also saluted the writers and publishers of the past year's 50 most-performed pop songs on U.S. radio and television.

David Foster prouduced Along The Red Ledge by Daryl Hall and John Oates which for the most part sounds nothing like most of what each has done before and after. Great record though. "Don't Blame It On Love" is outstanding.

Ilona! Sampled In Electric Chair 3000's " Le Dancer"

One of my most recent upload to Audiosparx is a French dance instrumental called "Le Dancer."  This song was inspired after listening to an online radio station called Le Mouv to get idea of what is happening in French pop music.

A lot of French Pop is  fast paced, upbeat dance music that combines elements of House and Electronica. Think Daft Punk, Lady Gaga, Black Eyed Peas. That kind of music.

"Le Dancer" features two female vocal samples. The first female vocal  is spoken in  French and is saying "J'ai tiens beaucoup de la danse  " which  means "I enjoy dancing" in English.  The female is not listed at Internet Archives.

This sample was taken from a Librivox audio book online called, "French Self Taught" by Franz J. L. Timm.  As it says at the Librivox section at Internet Archives, all Librivox recording are in the Public Domain.

The second female vocal is by Ilona Europa (pictured)  from Sony's "Ilona: Universal Female Vocal Toolkit."  I got this and many other vocal sample for free from Sony's website.  However, I like the samples so much that I will buy the entire set of loops by Europa.

So go and listen to "Le Dancer" at Audiosparx and if you want to license it for a media production, join Audiosparx if you're not a member already.

Gretsch G5120 Electromatic Hollowbody Guitar: So Much More Than Rockabil...

From Gearwire:It's not automatic, systematic, or hydromatic, but you can bet most of the ne'r-do-well kids from Grease would rather own a Gretsch G5120 Electromatic Hollowbody Guitar than sport a hicky from Kenickie. Now that I have no idea what I'm talking about, why don't you check out the video demo Owen did on the aforementioned, Korean-made gem.

Yes it's an overseas origin axe, but don't let that dissuade you from checking out a Gretsch G5012 at your earliest convenience. No matter what style of music you play, the Electromatic Hollowbody can pull it off — possibly exception being high-gain metal. Then again, the neck does shred.

This is Anthony Lloyd of Electric Chair 3000. Next to the sound of an acoustic guitar, my most loved sounds come from blues guitar. The Gretsch G5120 makes great rockabilly, blues and country guitar parts.

Despite having many of my songs that are dance, electronica and beat based, some of my favorite songs that I've made are country and blues songs. Must have something to do with being raised in Alabama.

How To Sell Your Music on iTunes

From Howcast: If you're an unsigned musician, selling your music on iTunes might seem daunting. It's actually very easy!

To complete this How-To you will need:

A CD or digital files of original
Recorded music
Money

Step 1: Get your music ready

Make sure your music is ready for public consumption. Don't forget cover art and any liner notes you want to include.

Step 2: Get a UPC barcode

Get a UPC barcode from a CD duplication company or online music distributor. Type "UPC code iTunes Store" into a search engine to find some options, which range in price from $10 to $30.

Tip: Read online reviews and ratings before you choose a UPC code vendor.

Step 3: Find a distributor

Find a distributor. To ensure you pick a legitimate company, look through several reviews of the company on various web sites. The distributor receives a percentage of every sale you make.

Step 4: Protect your rights

Protect your rights. Maintain ownership of your music by carefully reading all contracts to ensure you are only giving the company the right to distribute your music. If a contract has language about giving the distributor rights to your work, find another company.

Tip: Expect to pay a one-time sign-up fee, which sometimes includes a UPC code, plus a maintenance fee of about $1 per song and per album to keep your listings current.

Step 5: Send your distributor your CD

Send in your CD or digital files to the distributor you have chosen.

Tip: If you mail a physical CD to your distributor, make sure it's packaged exactly how you want it to be sold, including jewel case, cover art, booklet, CD art, and liner notes.

Step 6: Check iTunes for your music

Your music should automatically be placed in the iTunes Store within a few weeks. If you do not find it there, notify your distributor.

Step 7: Renew your distribution deal

Most distribution deals are only good for one year. To avoid having your music removed from iTunes and other online retailers, make sure you keep your account up to date.

Step 8: Promote your music

Just because your music is now available on iTunes doesn't mean it will be a best-seller. It's still up to you to promote your sound!

Thanks for watching How To Sell Your Music on iTunes! If you enjoyed this video subscribe to the Howcast YouTube channel!

If you click two of the links in the first box to the right, you will see Electric Chair 3000 at Amazon and iTunes. I placed my songs there by joining the distributor called Tunecore. It costs me 9.99 a song to place my songs at Amazon, EMusic, Nokia, Napster, Spotify, MediaNet, Zune, Thumbplay, IMVU in addition to iTunes. Let me be clear, you pay 9.99 for one song and have a choice of multiple digital store in which to place your song for one price. You can place your song at one store or all store mentioned above for $9.99.

Currently, I upload my songs to Tunecore by digital MP3. To date, I have never sent in a CD as it says in the video above. Thus, I have no experience doing that but so far my experience with Tunecore has been good.

After you place your songs at digital stores, I have some suggestions.

1. Buy a couple of your own songs. Why? Well, to see if your distributor is paying the royalty on your songs. Your distributor should give you reports on how your songs are selling. If you buy a couple of songs, you can see if your distributor will pay you your due royalty. As of now, I'm getting 70 cents a digital download out of 99 cents.

2. Triple check the audio quality of your songs. Making sure your songs have great audio quality is not the job of the distributor. It's yours. Plus, once a song is in a digital store, it's hard to remove them.

Getting on iTunes or any digital store is not an impossible task.

Electric Chair 3000 On Rosenklang

There are two Electric Chair 3000 songs on Rosenklang compilations. These compilations are available everywhere you download legal mp3s.

"X-Static"is available on Energetic Disco Dancing Volume One. Yes, the group is credited as The Electric Chair.  I changed the name after X-Static was chosen for Energetic Disco Dancing Volume One.  But, it is my song that is on this compilation.

"Slam Slam Slam" is available on A Collection Of Asian Pop. Again, the group is credited as The Electric Chair.  This song was selected before the name change.

Feel free to buy both  "X-Static" and "Slam Slam Slam" or any of the other songs these compilations.  89 cents? Even I can afford that!

Why the name change? There are other bands called Electric Chair or The Electric Chair.  I like the name though. So, to be different, I named my band Electric Chair 3000.

How are these songs doing?  Are they making this songwriter money?  Are they being played?

Taylor Swift Wins BMI Songwriter of the Year Award

From Clevver TV: Taylor Swift also took home the BI's Country Song of Year honor for "You Belong with Me," which makes her a record breaker yet again - she's the first songwriter to win that award three times in a row. Of course all the while, Taylor maintains herself as a down to earth girl. During the actually ceremony she tweeted out that she was at the BMI awards. She tweeted: "It's got a red theme. They have hot tamales in the centerpiece at the table. Is it bad that I'm eating them? Classy..." We love it!

I will not post a Kanye West joke.

The Difference Between ASCAP And BMI

From Artists House Music: In this clip from www.artistshousemusic.org - Todd Brabec is the Vice President and Director of Membership for the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP). He talks about the differences between ASCAP and BMI. One of the main differences is the reason each organization was founded. ASCAP is a writer and publisher owned organization dedicated to enforcing the copyright law. BMI is a corporation owned by the broadcasting industry. The two organizations also differ in other ways such as payment formulas. Also in this segment, Brabec stresses the affiliation regulations. Writers have to join one or the other. However, writers are free to switch to the other organization. The significance of a good relationship with foreign societies is covered as well. Brabec also focuses on the importance of having a contact at the performing rights organization (PRO). Also in this segment, he offers some advice. Brabec recommends knowing information such as the PRO's philosophy and if they pay correctly in certain areas.

Fellow songwriters, this is Anthony Lloyd, leader of Electric Chair 3000, and a professional songwriter. (Yes, I have received songwriter royalties, thus, I am a professional songwriter.) Dear songwriter, please join BMI, ASCAP or SESAC, these organizations are here to help you get your due royalties.

Personally, I don't care which one you join, that's your business but you should join one of them. As it says in the video, do research the PRO, performing rights organazation, before you join.

As of 2011, I am a member of BMI. BMI is home to Mariah Carey, Rhianna, and Taylor Swift to name a very few of the thousands of artists who claim BMI as their PRO.

What else should you songwriters do? Learn to copyright your songs and join Sound Exchange and The Harry Fox Agency. More on those organizations in other posts.

Electric Chair 3000 at Audiosparx

This is Anthony Lloyd again and I'm here to blog about my relationship with Audiosparx. What is Audiosparx? Audiosparx is a music publisher. They provide music for movies, television, corporations, commercials and such.  Chances are that you have heard a song published through Audiosparx as they have provided music for CSI Miami, The Good Wife, NCIS and many other television shows.  Plus they have published songs that have been used by Warner Bros, Disney, HBO, Pixar and New Line Cinema among many many others.  Don't take my words for it, following this link to see their recent license deals.

In late 2009, I joined Audiosparx and now they one of the publishers for my many songs.  Like any reputable publisher, it's free for any songwriter to join.  Follow the big link below to see a part of the Electric Chair 3000 catalog.  Please, take all the time in the world and listen to every song there and let me know what I'm doing right or wrong.  In advance, I'll thank you for you compliments and I have thick thin so I'll take your criticism in stride.

How is it having Audiosparx as a publisher? Even though I haven't had what I call big sales, I have enjoyed it.   Two of my songs (Queen Pacific and Bollywood Jam) have been chosen to present to a major corporation to use in their in-store service and two others (Slam Slam Slam and X-Static) are currently featured on two compilations thanks to Audiosparx relationship with music distributor Rosenklang. The two compilations Energetic Disco Dancing Volume One and A Collection of Asian Pop(They use our old name Electric Chair or The Electric Chair on these compilations.  I will post more on these compilations later. )

Before you join any music publisher, you should join a performing rights agency such as BMI or ASCAP and also, join Sound Exchange.  These agencies will collect your songwriting royalties from radio, television and live performances of your music plus Sound Exchange will collect money owed to you from satellite radio, Internet radio and non-interactive digital transmissions.  Follow the links to get more details.

Then I suggest you copyright your songs.  Currently, this is done through the Library of Congress and costs you $65 a song if you mail your material and $35 a song if you do it online.  Follow the link to get more details.

Finally after the above steps, I would seek a music publisher.  In my case, it was Audiosparx.

First go to the site and read the licensing agreement. READ IT.  As I stated before, it is free to join.

The following is clipped from the Audiosparx site:

1. Read Licensing Agreement - You can read our Vendor Licensing Agreement text by clicking here (popup window).

2. Register -  Take a minute to register online for free by
clicking here (popup window).  After registering and logging into the site, submit a new Artist Application (from the "Submit New Artist" option at the bottom of the Client tab of the MyAudioSparx Menu). We review all new artist applications within 48 hours and will email you with our decision about whether to represent the artist you submit the application for. You can submit multiple artist applications if you represent music for multiple different artists for whom you would like to sell content at AudioSparx.

3. Upload Tracks - If you are accepted as a new artist at AudioSparx, you can upload tracks one at a time, or use our powerful batch upload and batch edit features to upload dozens or even hundreds of tracks at once.  After uploading, configure each track with price, description and keywords (optional), and for music tracks you can optionally configure relevant moods, styles and other helpful information to make it easy for clients to find your tracks quickly.  The better the configuration effort, the better the results!

4.  Run Reports - You can run real time reports for any time period to see how many plays and sales your tracks are getting.

5. Get Paid - After the end of each calendar quarter we email you a report that details all sales for the previous quarter, and then shortly thereafter we send payment.

This link will give more in-depth detail on  how to join AUDIOSPARX.

The people at Audiosparx have been extremely helpful with me and many other artist on their sites.  Whenever I send an e-mail with a question, it is answered ASAP with thoughtful insights.  They want to sell  all of your songs if possible because they will get fifty percent (as do most music publishers unless you're the publisher) of your sales and royalties.  If they don't sell your songs, you get nothing and they get nothing.  Nobody wins.

Like any successful venture, the more work you put into it the more you will get out of it.  The most successful songwriters and artists on Audiosparx have uploaded many songs, written great descriptions of their songs, can write in many genres, and have high quality production of their songs.  These songwriters work hard to shape and mold their songs to the needs of the customers.  To be a successful songwriter, you must work harder than the ones who sell multiple songs.  It's not easy but it can be done.

With the help of the staff at Audiosparx, I know I am on my way to being a successful songwriter.

The Story Behind "Blow Up" By Electric Chair 3000

"Blow Up" was one the first songs that I got a royalty check for and I didn't even know it.  As a member of BMI, I am a songwriter who receives royalties for songs played on the radio, television or in-store media.  Now, it doesn't mean that I only get royalties for songs played in the USA, BMI has its tentacles in foreign markets too.

In 2000, I used software called Acid DJ created by Sonic Foundry (now owned by Sony Music) to create all of my songs for the group I called Crowdpleaser.  The  software came with a disc with over 600 music loops. To date, I think I've used every one on that disc or at least I've tried too.  "Blow Up" was supposed to be a combo  of old school rap beats into modern electronica.  It represented at the time the purpose of Crowdpleaser (now Electric Chair 3000) to combine as many styles of music into one solid whole. Truth be told, I'm a lot better at doing it now in 2011 then I was in 2000.

In 2005, "Blow Up" was played on a Taiwan radio station in the first quarter.  Well, it got enough airplay to qualify for royalties.

At the time, I had no idea that it was being played anywhere. Because I never received royalties in the five years that I was with BMI, I assumed 05 was not going to be any different. To this end, I never checked my BMI account...for years.
Then one day in 2010, I decided to take songwriting seriously again and checked my BMI statement and I was shocked to see that I had a check coming to me.

Well, I clicked the box and open my pdf file to show my royalty statement and  praise God there was "Blow Up" and how much money it made in 05.  A grand total of $12.61. Was I upset? Hell no! It motivated me. I figured if I could one radio station to play my song, why not 100 or 1000.  With the rise of internet radio, itunes and YouTube, any hustling artist or songwriter should be able to make some kind of money. The key words being hustling artist.

"Blow Up" was one of the many songs I had at the original MP3.COM.  On the original MP3.Com, an independent artist could load up as many songs as he liked and have the public judge them.   I had about 50 songs and some of them did relatively well.  "Blow Up" wasn't one of them.

Mp3.Com was sold and all of the indie bands had to take down their songs or have them taken down.  Some bands went to GarageBand other went to Myspace or their own websites.

Somebody in Taiwan must of downloaded" Blow Up"and liked it enough to play on the radio and years later I got a check for it.

This has motivated me to redouble my efforts at songwriting and promotion.
